At Abingdon Health & Rehab Center, we’re privileged to care for some of the most wonderful individuals. Each day, our staff will share memorable moments they’ve had with residents, moments that they will forever cherish. In our Resident Spotlight, we want to introduce you to some of those Residents that we get to call family, and what makes them so unique! For this week’s spotlight, we say hello to Mr. Trent.
Mr. Trent came to Abingdon Health & Rehab Center due to surgery and required some strengthening to return home. The staff members encouraged him, and this allowed him to progress at a faster pace. He stated, “that after receiving excellent therapy and comforting care from nursing, I am now able to return home”. This experience was so positive, and he appreciated all those who assisted in his care.
He was raised in Marion, VA, attended the University of Richmond, and then in 1968, he joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He was in the Air Force for four years, with two years stationed in Japan. He said that Japan was a beautiful and exciting country to visit due to its unique culture, exquisite food, and population. He studied Japanese so that he was able to converse in their native language. It is one of his favorite places to travel during his deployment. Being stationed in South Carolina, Mr. Trent decided to stay in the area once his time in the military was over.
For the next 50 years, he enjoyed working, community involvement, and had numerous hobbies. He was employed in the TV and broadcasting industry, had his own company in TV production, and worked in public relations with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. One of his hobbies was studying and learning about family genealogy. Over the years, he has developed an enormous database of information and now assists others in their study of family origin.
He relocated back to the Marion area approximately six years ago and enjoyed spending time with family members and friends.
