Nancy Purkey

Ms. Nancy Purkey is our resident/staff member for the month of April. Nancy calls Marion, Virginia home, a family-based community located just a short distance from Abingdon. Recently, Nancy was admitted to our center for rehab services to regain strength to once again continue to provide care for our residents here at the center.

Nancy attributes her work ethic to her parents. She was taught the value of trust and compassion at an early age. After graduating from Johnson Memorial School of Nursing in 1971, Nancy worked as an RN at the Hospital. Nancy’s career expanded into numerous departments in acute care. After her hospital experience, she moved into long-term care utilizing her skills and passion to support staff and residents.

Nancy is active in her church at Marion Baptist Church along with being the parish nurse. She has been blessed to participate in several mission trips including a Medical Mission trip to Belize, Pastor’s Retreat in Panama along with being part of the team teaching Vacation Bible School in Panama and Switzerland.

Nancy remembers the days of white bonnets, starched uniforms, and clinic shoes. Those were the days when nurses could only wear skirts and dresses to work. Today Nancy likes wearing her scrubs to work. In her downtime she enjoys spending time with her family, watching her great-grandsons play sports and enjoys cuddling with her great-granddaughter.

Nancy, we at Abingdon Health and Rehab wish you a speedy recovery.
